Sunline Shooter Machinegun Cast monofilament manufacturer product package

Shooter Machinegun Cast is nylon monofilament, not Shooter fluorocarbon. This guide covers the current Japanese-market Plasma Rise version. Its package lengths are printed in meters, with 150-meter and 100-meter sizes depending on strength; the calculator converts those lengths to yards.

Is Machinegun Cast right for your setup?

Consider Machinegun Cast when a nylon main line fits your presentation and you want to compare its physical diameter before spooling. Sunline positions this version for repeated bass casting. That positioning is not a substitute for matching your rod, lure, cover, and reel to the chosen strength.

Choosing your setup

Choosing your Machinegun Cast strength

The 12 lb entry is .285 mm. Its inch equivalent is converted for ReelCalc's shared calculation, rather than borrowed from an unrelated 12 lb mono. Keep the metric reference when checking the label on an imported package.

The package drops from 150 meters to 100 meters at 22 lb. Choosing a heavier strength can therefore reduce both the reel's capacity and the amount supplied in a single retail spool.

Do not confuse this nylon product with Shooter fluorocarbon or Shooter BMS Azayaka FC. A family name on the packaging is not enough to establish the material or capacity diameter.

This is a specification-based setup guide, not a hands-on Machinegun Cast performance test.

Backing, working line & leaders

Convert the package, not the label

150 meters is approximately 164 yards; 100 meters is approximately 109 yards. Neither package contains 150 or 100 yards. Keep this difference in mind when dividing an imported spool into working sections.

Use the midpoint as a reference

The current version has a black midpoint mark: 75 meters on the 150-meter spool or 50 meters on the 100-meter spool. Half a package is only a useful fill when that length covers your fishing needs.

Check the version before ordering

This page uses the current New Att Brown version with red distance markings. Older Machinegun Cast stock may use different presentation or packaging; compare the exact diameter and length on the package you receive.

Machinegun Cast questions, answered

Should I enter a mono or braid reel rating?

Use the mono rating for this nylon main line. An actual reference diameter, when available on the reel, removes the need to estimate it from the rated pound test.

Does Machinegun Cast remove the need for backing?

No. Backing is a choice based on the working length and available reel space. A full mono fill is also valid when you have enough line and the diameter suits the reel.

Are the displayed inches printed by Sunline?

For this Japanese source, the manufacturer gives standard diameter in millimeters. ReelCalc converts it to inches; those converted values are not a second independent measurement.

Specifications & sources

Specifications checked 2026-09-13. Current JDM product. Inch diameter and yard lengths converted from published metric specifications. Check the actual package when buying older or imported stock. Product imagery identifies the model, not every selectable strength.

Calculations use the catalog's listed inch diameters. Published inch and millimeter values may differ slightly because of rounding.
