How to Use ReelCalc:
Choose Standard units or Metric units.
Choose Backing + Working Line or Capacity Only.
Start by entering your reel’s line strength rating and the total capacity of your reel. For example, 10lb test and 165 yards in Standard Units or .030 mm and 150 meters in Metric Units
Next, input how much premium line you want on the spool and the diameter of that line. For example, 50 yards of 8LB Seaguar Tatsu, which has a diameter of .009 in, or 45 meters and .23 mm diameter.
Enter the diameter of your backing line. For example, anything could be used for backing as long as you know the diameter of the line. 10LB Berkley Big Game monofilament has a diameter of .012 in (or .30 mm) and is easy to find and cost effective.
Click “Calculate” and ReelCalc will instantly show how many yards of backing you need, with the chosen amount of premium line to fill the reel perfectly. An estimated cost savings is given when using backing instead of filling the reel entirely with premium line. Note: If IPT (inches of line retrieved per handle rotation) is known, an estimated amount of handle turns is also calculated.
