Sunline FC Sniper Fluorocarbon

Diameter chart, reel capacity & backing guide

Sunline FC Sniper fluorocarbon manufacturer product package

FC Sniper is Sunline's fluorocarbon main line for spinning and casting tackle. Its closely spaced lighter strengths make it useful to compare when planning a finesse setup, while the heavier end covers very different spool-space requirements. Select the actual strength before checking capacity: a 200-yard package is not offered throughout the range.

Is FC Sniper right for your setup?

Consider FC Sniper when you want fluorocarbon as the line you cast, rather than only a short leader on braid. Start with your rod, lure, cover, and drag setting. Then use the diameter to check whether your reel can carry a useful working length. A generous capacity number does not mean heavy fluorocarbon will handle well on a small spinning spool.

Choosing your setup

Choosing your FC Sniper strength

The 5, 6, 7, and 8 lb options provide small steps in diameter for light setups. That makes an exact selection worthwhile: 7 lb is .0086 inch, while 8 lb is .0093 inch. Do not round both to a generic light-fluorocarbon diameter before calculating.

For a baitcaster, compare the intermediate strengths against lure weight and cover before choosing the heavy end. FC Sniper 16 lb is .013 inch; 20 lb is .0146 inch. That increase takes more spool space even though both might be sold for the same general fishing application.

If you use FC Sniper only as a short leader on braid, calculate the reel with the braid's diameter. The short leader does not turn the reel into a full fluorocarbon setup.

Check the package-length change

The current US range uses 200-yard packages through 14 lb and 165-yard packages from 16 through 30 lb. Bulk options are strength-specific. Compare the selected package with your required fill before ordering.

Budget for retying

A working section over mono backing can conserve FC Sniper. Leave room for your longest casts, fish runs, and removal of worn line; do not plan around one cast's length alone.

Watch the final fill

Apply steady tension and stop at the reel manufacturer's fill level. Published diameter produces a planning estimate, not a reason to keep winding after the spool is visibly full.

FC Sniper questions, answered

Is FC Sniper the same as Shooter?

No. They are separate Sunline products. Some diameter entries match, but that does not establish identical handling or construction. Choose the exact model rather than substituting the Sunline brand alone.

Can 7 lb FC Sniper be selected?

Yes. The verified US catalog includes 7 lb at .0086 inch and .219 mm. Its assigned package lengths are included in the selector.

Will a 200-yard spool fill two reels?

Only if the two planned fills, including any allowance for trimming and attachment, fit within that package. Compare each reel separately or plan shorter working sections over backing.

Specifications checked 2026-09-13. Manufacturer chart inch/mm pairs transcribed separately; assigned SKU variants verify strength-specific package lengths. Check the actual package when buying older or imported stock. Product imagery identifies the model, not every selectable strength.

Calculations use the catalog's listed inch diameters. Published inch and millimeter values may differ slightly because of rounding.
