Stren Crappie Mono
Diameter chart, reel capacity & backing guide
Crappie Mono is Stren's panfish-focused mono family, offered in Clear and Hi-Vis Gold in the 2016 US catalog. This guide uses that edition's published 2-10 lb specifications and 200-yard packages only. It does not assume today's packages or formulation are unchanged.

Keep a light-line setup deliberate
Crappie Mono provides light strengths to consider for small-lure and panfish setups. Its product name does not mean one strength suits every crappie technique: heavier rigs and contact with cover can change the requirement. Choose the rod, rig and working reserve first. A small reel can hold substantial light mono, so the package length and the amount actually needed on the reel remain separate decisions.
Stren Crappie Mono diameter chart
2016 US Crappie Mono Clear and Hi-Vis Gold filler specifications, 2-10 lb and 200 yd. No rows from Stren Original, another Stren family or a later catalog edition are mixed into this chart.
| Strength | Inches | mm | Spools (yd) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 lb | 0.006 | 0.1524 | 200 |
| 4 lb | 0.007 | 0.1778 | 200 |
| 6 lb | 0.008 | 0.2032 | 200 |
| 8 lb | 0.009 | 0.2286 | 200 |
| 10 lb | 0.010 | 0.254 | 200 |
Choosing your Crappie Mono strength
Use 2 lb only where the rod, drag, rig and contact hazards suit very light line. Extra capacity does not compensate for an unsuitable strength.
The 4 and 6 lb entries are distinct physical sizes, not interchangeable copies of Stren Original. Select the exact family before relying on a reel-fill estimate.
The verified 8 and 10 lb rows extend beyond the earlier database inventory. They come from this same edition's table, not interpolation. Decide whether the heavier size suits the fishing rather than selecting it simply to consume more of the package.
This is a specification reference, not an independent comparison of bite detection, visibility, casting or abrasion resistance.

Use the 200-yard package as a budget
The reviewed table uses 200-yard filler packages across its listed strengths. On a compact reel that may leave line for another partial fill; on a deeper reel it may fall short of a complete fill.
Start with a full mono mainline
No extra anti-slip mono layer is needed merely because the chosen line is thin. Use the reel's specified attachment and stop at its recommended fill clearance.
Keep any joining knot out of the working section
If you intentionally retain backing, allow enough fresh line for the longest cast, runs and repeated retying. The short examples are volume-planning examples, not universal fishing-length recommendations.
Choose visibility separately from strength
The archived Clear and Hi-Vis Gold options are color choices within this table. Select a color for the presentation and line-watching conditions, not as evidence of a stronger line.
Crappie Mono questions, answered
No. The manufacturer's catalog identifies a separate family with its own diameter table. Matching test labels do not make the two products interchangeable.
Why do 8 and 10 lb appear here? Both are printed in the same official 2016 Crappie Mono table as the lighter strengths. They are verified additions, not estimates from the 2-6 lb rows.
Are Clear and Hi-Vis Gold different package lengths? The inspected edition shows both colors in 200-yard filler packages for the charted strengths. This does not establish later retail offerings.
Should I choose 2 lb for maximum capacity? No. Choose line strength for the rod, rig and conditions. Capacity helps plan the fill only after a suitable strength has been selected.
Are current stock and unchanged formulation verified? No. This page is explicitly a reference to the 2016 US published specifications. Match any newer package to its own label.

Millimeter values are explicit conversions from printed inches. The original same-edition image asset includes the package and catalog lifestyle artwork; no product imagery was recreated. Current stock and continuity are not claimed.
Calculations use the catalog's listed inch diameters. Published inch and millimeter values may differ slightly because of rounding.
