Maxima Fluorocarbon

Diameter chart, reel capacity & backing guide

Maxima Fluorocarbon actual manufacturer product package

Maxima Fluorocarbon is distinct from Maxima Clear mono. This mainline guide uses the current U.S. 200-yard One Shot variants and excludes the same product family's Leader Wheels and heavy leader coils from full-spool purchase planning.

Is Fluorocarbon right for your setup?

Choose this chart when Maxima Fluorocarbon will be the line you cast, not merely a short terminal section. Maxima describes a special UV-protective finish and emphasizes castability, but this is not a measured longevity or handling test. A compact spinning reel can hold a heavy fluorocarbon mathematically while still being a poor handling match.

Maxima Fluorocarbon diameter chart

Maxima U.S. 200-yard One Shot fluorocarbon variants only. Leader Wheels and coils excluded. Repeated 6/8 and 12/15 lb diameter values are published-source anomalies; metric values are conversions. The repeated values are confirmed in original U.S. variant data, not independently corroborated package measurements. Distinct strengths can share a rounded diameter, so repetition alone does not establish an error.

Choosing your setup

Choosing your Fluorocarbon strength

The official One Shot fields repeat 0.009 inch at 6 and 8 lb. These are retained as published values, with the repeated pairs flagged for review rather than assuming that every strength must have a different diameter.

The 10 lb One Shot is listed at 0.011 inch; the source repeats 0.013 inch at 12 and 15 lb. Use the exact variant figure when comparing capacity and do not borrow the monofilament chart.

At 20, 25 and 30 lb the One Shot figures are 0.016, 0.017 and 0.019 inch. The 40 lb option is thicker still and needs suitable tackle; heavier leader-only coils are outside this mainline subset.

This is a specification-based Fluorocarbon setup guide, not a ReelCalc hands-on casting, abrasion or breaking-strength test.

Backing, working line & leaders

Use the 200-yard mainline package

The reviewed One Shot variants supply 200 yards each. This does not make 200 yards sufficient for every reel: compare a full fill with the selected strength and keep a run/retying reserve.

Distinguish leader wheels and coils

The source also offers short Leader Wheels and heavy coils. Those are deliberately not used as default mainline packages or as evidence for extending the full-fill strength range.

Choose a full fill or backing plan

A continuous fluorocarbon fill avoids a working-line connection. If you use backing beneath a shorter fresh section, keep its knot below normal casting depth and follow the reel maker's fill guidance.

Fluorocarbon questions, answered

Is this the same product as Maxima Clear?

No. Maxima Clear is monofilament. Maxima Fluorocarbon has its own construction, package variants and diameter fields.

Why can adjacent strengths show the same diameter?

That is what the current manufacturer One Shot fields publish for 6/8 lb and 12/15 lb. This guide flags those repeated values rather than inventing a correction.

Does the UV finish prove a longer service life?

Maxima describes a UV-protective finish, but this page has no independent durability comparison. Inspect and replace damaged line based on its condition rather than a claimed lifetime.

How much Fluorocarbon fits my reel?

Use the selected Fluorocarbon diameter with your reel's published capacity. Pound test is a product strength label, not a universal diameter. Stop filling at the reel manufacturer's recommended level.

Does Fluorocarbon require backing?

Backing is optional for a full mainline fill. It can make sense under a shorter fresh working section, but the connection must stay below normal casting depth with enough reserve for runs and retying.
