Diameter chart, reel capacity & backing guide

Maxima Clear actual manufacturer product packageManufacturer Maxima Clear Leader Wheel shown for product-family identification. This short leader package is excluded from the mainline package choices and does not depict the selected reel-fill supply.

Maxima Clear is the uncolored monofilament option in this U.S. Maxima set. The current manufacturer variants provide exact inch diameters and yardages for Mini Pack, One Shot, Maxi and Service packages; fluorocarbon and Leader Wheels are separate.

Is Clear right for your setup?

Clear is worth considering for a conventional mono main line when you prefer a clear material to Ultragreen or Chameleon. Maxima markets it for casting, jigging, trolling and bottom fishing, but those broad applications do not imply a single best strength. Start with the actual diameter and working length, then compare the specific retail spool with the estimated fill.

Choosing your setup

Choosing your Clear strength

Clear 6 and 8 lb are 0.009 and 0.010 inch; the 10 lb step is 0.012 inch. On a compact reel, the volume and handling consequences of that jump matter as much as the nominal strength increase.

The middle range moves through 12, 15, 20, 25 and 30 lb. Select based on rod, lure, cover and drag, then check space; a reel's printed capacity strength is not a command to use that line size.

The current mainline evidence extends to 130 lb. Such heavy specifications belong to appropriately sized tackle and should not be interpreted as options endorsed for the small-reel examples.

This is a specification-based Clear setup guide, not a ReelCalc hands-on casting, abrasion or breaking-strength test.

Backing, working line & leaders

Use the Clear package fields

The U.S. One Shot variant is 250 yards at 6 lb and 220 yards at 8, 10, 12 and 15 lb. A Clear refill should be planned from that selected package, not a generic bulk-spool label.

Keep mono and fluorocarbon identities separate

Maxima Clear and Maxima Fluorocarbon are different products. A clear appearance does not establish fluorocarbon construction or authorize using the fluorocarbon diameter chart.

Replace enough working line

A full continuous mono fill avoids another knot. A shorter section over sound backing is optional, but provide reserve for runs and abrasion-related trimming and stop at the reel's recommended fill level.

Clear questions, answered

Is Maxima Clear fluorocarbon?

No. Clear is the monofilament product covered here. Maxima also sells a distinct Fluorocarbon product with its own chart.

Can Clear be used for trolling?

Maxima includes trolling among its stated uses. The actual diameter, reel capacity, target fish and working length still need to fit the application; the claim does not select a universal strength.

Why is a small Leader Wheel not a mainline package option?

Leader Wheels are short terminal-material packages. This guide separates them from the manufacturer's mainline spool families rather than assuming they can fill a reel.

How much Clear fits my reel?

Use the selected Clear diameter with your reel's published capacity. Pound test is a product strength label, not a universal diameter. Stop filling at the reel manufacturer's recommended level.

Does Clear require backing?

Backing is optional for a full mainline fill. It can make sense under a shorter fresh working section, but the connection must stay below normal casting depth with enough reserve for runs and retying.
