Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon

Diameter chart, reel capacity & backing guide

Berkley Vanish manufacturer product packageVanish filler-spool package shown. The chart below covers verified bulk-spool specifications.

Berkley Vanish is a fluorocarbon main line designed with casting flexibility in mind. Its sinking material makes it a different choice from nylon for a working line. This guide uses the published US bulk-spool strength and diameter pairs, with capacity estimates based on the selected diameter.

Construction
100% fluorocarbon main line
Listed strengths
6-60 lb
Line type
Fluorocarbon main line

Is Vanish right for your setup?

Vanish can suit subsurface presentations when you want a fluorocarbon working line without relying on a separate braid-to-leader connection. Lighter diameters are easier to manage on small spinning spools. The heavier entries need tackle that can handle thick fluorocarbon; they are not universal spinning-reel recommendations.

The chart shows the resolved strength, diameter, and package combinations from Berkley's US Vanish bulk-spool listing. The 2,000- and 1,700-yard amounts are retail supplies, not recommended single-reel fills. Filler-spool and leader packages are not implied by this chart.

Choosing your setup

Choosing your Vanish strength

The 6-10 lb entries are the lighter diameters shown here. Start with the rod's line rating, your lure, and the cover you fish. Filling a small spinning reel with fluorocarbon requires attention to line twist and the manufacturer's fill level.

The 12-20 lb choices give you a thicker working line for tackle and presentations that can manage it. For the same reel, increasing diameter reduces the available yardage; the calculator makes that tradeoff visible.

The 30-60 lb entries are heavy fluorocarbon choices. They are included because they have published specifications, not because they are recommended for everyday casting on every reel. A short leader and a full working spool are different jobs.

This is a specification-based setup guide, not a hands-on Vanish performance test.

Backing, working line & leaders

A supply spool is not a fill target

A bulk Vanish spool can supply multiple reel fills. Use the estimated full-spool amount as a starting point, then stop at the reel maker's fill level rather than trying to use the whole retail spool.

Replacing only the working section

Backing can let you replace a worn working section without discarding every yard on the spool. Leave enough usable Vanish above the backing connection for the casts and runs you expect.

Keep the main line and leader distinct

This guide covers Vanish main line. A leader sold in a short spool should be checked against its own label, not assumed to share every diameter or package option shown here.

Vanish questions, answered

Is Vanish nylon with a fluorocarbon coating?

No. Berkley describes this Vanish main line as 100% fluorocarbon. It should not be confused with a fluorocarbon-coated nylon or copolymer line.

Why does the package menu start at 2,000 yards?

These are the bulk-spool packages whose strength and diameter combinations are documented in the source used for this chart. The calculator returns the amount for your reel, not the whole package.

Does a capacity estimate mean this strength is a good casting choice?

Not by itself. The calculation estimates spool space. Match the line to the rod, lure, reel, and fishing conditions, especially with the thickest fluorocarbon sizes.

Specifications & sources

Specifications checked 2026-09-13. Only source-supported strength and package combinations are included. Official inch values are used for calculations. Check your own label when using older or imported stock. The product image identifies the model, not every selectable strength.

Calculations use the catalog's listed inch diameters. Published inch and millimeter values may differ slightly because of rounding.
