A Penn Fierce IV 8000 owner wanted the complete 300-yard spool of Reaction Tackle X8 30 lb braid on the reel. Before any line was installed, ReelCalc predicted the mono backing needed. We then measured both lines with a Rapala digital line counter and documented the finished spool.

The main line was set to braid because Reaction Tackle X8 was the working line. The backing was set to Mono / Fluoro because Sufix Superior monofilament was going underneath it. Stop the Backing at 600 Feet
The calculator predicted 207.4 yards, but the line counter measured in feet. We rounded down to an even 600 feet, which equals 200 yards, and stopped the backing there.
Connect the Mono Backing to the Braid
The Sufix mono backing was connected to the Reaction Tackle braid with a Uni-to-Uni knot.
Install the Full 300 Yards of Braid
The line counter measured 900 feet of Reaction Tackle X8 30 lb braid. That equals 300 yards, so the entire intended braid spool was installed.
Inspect the Finished Spool
The final setup contained 200 yards of 20 lb mono backing and 300 yards of 30 lb braid. Their lengths total 500 yards, but that does not mean 500 yards of one uniform line diameter would fit; the mono and braid have different diameters.
